Ahh.. Split Rock, MN. This one is on my list of vacation destinations. But, of course I would be going in mid-summer. I have a hard enough time keeping warm; I have no intentions of going to a northern shore on a snowy winter day.

Where exactly is Split Rock? I visited Minnesota with my family back in.........well, let's just say it was a long time ago! I remember how pretty the campground we stayed at was, and the lovely forestation. I also remember, not fondly, the hordes of mosquitoes that dive-bombed us as we tried to have a cookout! This was in July, and the nights were very pleasantly cool, and even the days weren't too bad. Anyway, I hope you make it there someday--just not in Winter!!

"Two Harbors, Minnesota Lake Superior Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Split Rock Light is considered on e of the most dramatic along the Great Lakes. In response to a tremendous gale-force storm in 1905 when more than thirty ships crashed into rocky cliffs along Lake Superior and seven more that just disappeared, this beacon was built in 1910. The location of this particular lighthouse was chosen partially because the iron content in the surrounding hills could create a magnetic force strong enough to render a compass fairly useless, and mariners needed a reliable navigational tool for passage. Although no longer operational, Split Rock's beacon is still lit once a year on November 10th to honor the captain and crew aboard the lost Edmund Fitzgerald. " - http://www.nicepublishing.com/

Split Rock lighthouse is approximatly halfway between Michigan and Canada along Lake Superior. It guards the entrance to the bay along the Northwest shore.

Boring, MD, United States
When I moved from farmlife to "city" dwelling, I brought with me 2 dogs and 8 cats. What would possess me to do such a thing, you may ask. Companionship? Naivete? Insanity? No, an attempt to save their lives, and give them a quality of life they'd never dreamed existed. And, ok, maybe a little insanity...
